Description

What is Matte Ink Grey Color PPF?

Apterix CLR Matte Ink Grey is a ceramic-infused color paint protection film (PPF) with a deep, near-black grey finish and a rich, velvety matte surface — the darkest grey in the Apterix CLR lineup before the absolute black of Matte Carbon Black. The name is precise: ink is the deepest grey that still retains its grey identity — present in fountain pen ink, calligraphy, and the written word — a material associated with precision, refinement, and deliberate expression. As an automotive color, Ink Grey delivers that same quality: dark enough to carry the visual weight of black, grey enough to communicate sophistication that pure black cannot. It is the most dressed-up grey in the lineup — less aggressive than Matte Shark Grey's cool predatory tone, less industrial than Matte Graphite's neutral professionalism, and deeper and more luxurious than any of the lighter greys in the family.

Key features:
- Finish: Deep smooth matte with velvety texture — the surface quality produces a sensory richness that flat or industrial mattes do not; it reads as sumptuous rather than utilitarian
- Tone: Deep near-black grey — the darkest grey in the lineup; retains grey identity at close range while reading near-black at distance
- Velvety character: The matte surface has a fine, even texture that gives the color tactile depth — a quality most visible on large flat surfaces like hoods and rooflines where the material character can fully express itself
- Self-healing surface: Minor scratches fade with heat activation — on a deep dark matte, surface marks create high-contrast light lines against the surrounding depth, making self-healing critical
- Hydrophobic coating: Repels dirt, water, and road grime for easy maintenance — deep dark grey surfaces show environmental deposits clearly, requiring a hydrophobic layer that performs consistently
- UV and chemical resistance: Maintains vibrant color and finish longevity — deep grey pigments are vulnerable to UV-driven warm shift that pulls near-black grey toward a softer, flatter charcoal over time
- Precision fitment: Custom-cut for seamless application on luxury vehicle body lines, SUV panels, and performance car geometry
- Ceramic infusion: Hard, impact-resistant base layer protecting against chips, scratches, and environmental wear
- Technology base: Apterix CLR Color PPF platform

What vehicles is it best for?

Matte Ink Grey is the grey for vehicles where luxury is the primary brief — luxury sedans and coupes, premium SUVs, and high-end performance cars where a dark, refined finish communicates taste and quality rather than aggression or utility. It is particularly effective on vehicles with smooth, expansive body surfaces — long hoods, sweeping door panels, and broad flanks — where the velvety texture and near-black depth can read across large areas with maximum impact. It suits Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS, BMW 7 Series, Bentley Continental, and premium Porsche builds where a dark finish is expected to be as refined as the vehicle it covers. It pairs with chrome or brushed silver trim, dark wood or piano black accents, and any wheel finish from gloss black to polished silver.

What problem does it solve?

Deep near-black grey as a matte factory finish is rare — most manufacturers who offer dark grey programs provide it in gloss, and matte programs where available are typically lighter in tone than what Ink Grey delivers. The specific velvety matte surface quality is essentially absent from the vinyl wrap market, which produces flat, texturally undifferentiated results in dark grey. Commodity dark grey PPF films deliver the color without the surface quality. Apterix CLR Matte Ink Grey provides the full package: a precisely formulated near-black grey with genuine velvety matte depth through a ceramic-infused PPF that protects the pigment from UV-driven warm drift, delivers self-healing surface performance for a finish that would otherwise require constant professional attention, and can be removed without paint impact when the owner's preferences change.

Still have questions?

What are the requirements to become an APTERIX dealer?

APTERIX dealers are carefully selected, not mass-enrolled. We partner only with established automotive service businesses that demonstrate proven installation expertise, professional facilities, and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Our network is intentionally limited to elite detailers, wrap shops, and specialty automotive centers capable of meeting APTERIX installation and brand standards.

Shops with existing experience installing premium PPF systems—particularly current XPEL or SunTek dealers—are prioritized, as they already understand the technical precision and discipline required at this level. Not every shop qualifies, and that is by design. APTERIX is represented only by installers who can protect the integrity, performance, and reputation of the product.

What kind of training and support do you provide?

APTERIX training is built in partnership with The Wrap Institute, the industry’s leading education platform for professional wrap, PPF, and tint installers worldwide. With thousands of certified installers and a reputation for setting the standard in installation best practices, The Wrap Institute brings deep technical credibility and proven curriculum to our program.

Together, we offer APTERIX-specific hands-on installation training, certification pathways, and ongoing product education, ensuring installers are fully equipped to work with our films at the highest level. Dealers also receive direct access to our technical support team, along with marketing materials, co-branded assets, and our dealer portal—packed with resources, documentation, and best practices to help grow and scale their business.

How does APTERIX PPF compare to other brands?

APTERIX is positioned at the absolute top end of the paint protection film market—built for customers and installers who refuse to compromise. While many brands focus on scale, volume, or flashy variety, APTERIX is engineered around one principle: maximum protection, longevity, and consistency across every film we produce.

Compared to XPEL, APTERIX clearly separates itself by prioritizing film performance and long-term ownership over mass distribution and software dependence. XPEL is widely used, but APTERIX goes further—delivering longer warranty coverage on its flagship clear films, tighter quality control, and a more refined product lineup designed for premium installations, not production-line throughput.

Against color-PPF brands like Inozetek and PurePPF, the difference is even more pronounced. Those brands emphasize color variety first; APTERIX starts with protection-grade engineering and then layers color on top. APTERIX:CLR is not vinyl-inspired color film with a protective label—it is true paint protection film that happens to be color-dialed, delivering real impact resistance, optical stability, and durability that lower-tier color PPFs simply do not match.

APTERIX doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. It is deliberately built for the top of the market—luxury vehicles, performance cars, and owners who expect their protection film to perform at the same level as the vehicles it’s installed on. The result is a cohesive, high-end PPF system—clear, matte, and color—that outperforms mass-market and color-only competitors in the areas that actually matter: protection, longevity, and confidence over time.

What warranty coverage do you offer?

APTERIX offers industry-leading warranty coverage across its entire film ecosystem.

Our gloss and satin/matte PPF lines (including PRO and EVO) are backed by a 15-year warranty, as is APTERIX Color PPF, covering defects such as yellowing, cracking, peeling, and delamination under normal use and proper installation. APTERIX window tint is protected by a lifetime warranty.

What are the minimum order requirements for dealers?

Initial dealer orders vary based on your market and business size. We work with each partner to establish appropriate inventory levels. Our dealer success team will discuss specific requirements during the application process.

Do you offer exclusive territory protection?

Territory assignments are evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on market density and dealer performance. We prioritize quality partnerships and ensure adequate market coverage while maintaining dealer profitability.
